Applications

Providence Creek Academy Ballet Theater classes and programs are open to all students who wish to audition and train at its studio in Clayton.  PCABT is an equal opportunity school and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, color, national origin, or sexual orientation.  Applications for audition are accepted with or without previous dance training.  Applicants who are accepted into the academic year program are required to pay an annual registration fee and their monthly tuition for classes upon placement.  Students to do not have to be enrolled at Providence Creek Academy Charter School to participate. ^

To Register

Interested students must complete a registration form, publicity release form, release of liability form, and performance policy.  Each applicant must also submit the non-refundable annual registration fee along with the first month’s tuition. ^

Placement Process

Registered students ages three through seven are placed in PCABT’s Children’s Division using age and experience as guidelines prior to placement.  Registered students ages eight or older with little or no formal training listed on the registration form are scheduled for an audition and placed accordingly.

Students with formal dance training listed on the registration form will be scheduled for placement class which will serve as the evaluation by PCABT’s artistic director and faculty. This evaluation will determine the level within which the student will be studying for the year.  Following the placement class, the artistic director will discuss with the applicant and his/her parents the results of the placement class and how many classes are expected for that level and, if applicable, any performance opportunities and responsibilities.  Placement in all PCABT classes is based solely on ability, not age. ^

  • All students are expected to behave respectfully and courteously at all times to other dancers and to PCABT faculty and staff.

  • Talking is not permitted during class or rehearsals.

  • No student should chew gum or use bad language near the PCA studios.

  • No food or drinks are permitted in the studio.

  • Please put your belongings on the shelves provided.

  • No one is permitted in the hallway during rehearsals for which they are a part.

  • Please do not interrupt classes already in session.  Dancers and parents must wait for classes currently in session to be dismissed before entering the studio.

  •   Water bottles are encouraged and dancers will have water breaks during class.

Lydia Creasy, PCABT’s Artistic Director, may dismiss any student from the school for breaking the rules, for being uncooperative, disruptive, or for endangering the health, safety, and welfare of him/herself or others.

There have been times in the past when misinformation has been passed from parent to parent which has resulted in unnecessary confusion and problems for some students and their families.  If you have a question or a problem about anything regarding PCABT, its classes or faculty, please direct them to the PCABT faculty. ^

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, please be advised that if Providence Creek Academy cancels classes or has an early dismissal, PCABT classes will not be held.  If after school activities are cancelled and your child is in the early class, you will receive a phone call so that you may make transportation arrangements for your child.  If your child is in the late class, your child will bring a note home indicating that classes are cancelled for the evening.  Make up classes for inclement weather will be scheduled as necessary. ^

Arriving and Departing from PCABT
  • Students in the pre-professional division should try to be at or in the studio 30 minutes prior to the start of class.  Pre-class warm-up reduces the risk of injury.

  • If you are late, please ask the teacher/choreographer for permission to participate in the remainder of class.  If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may be asked to observe due to risk of injury.

  • Students should be picked up in a timely fashion, within 10 minutes of the end of their last class.  If students are not picked up within 10 minutes of the end of class, a fee of $1.00 per minute will apply for every minute after the 10 minute grace period.  This charge will be added to the student’s account.

  • Please do not drop your child off in the parking lot, instead, walk them into the main lobby and watch them walk to the studio.  PCABT faculty is not responsible for students until they reach the studio.

  • PCABT asks all of our students to dress appropriately when arriving to and departing from class and rehearsals.  Dancewear is not appropriate attire for the street and students should wear street clothing over their leotards and or tights.

  • All children must be signed out by a parent/guardian at the end of every class.  If a person other than the emergency contact person is going to pick up the child, a written authorization needs to be sent in advance and the person picking up the child will be asked for photo ID.

  • Parents are only permitted to observe class during open house. ^

Performance Opportunities

All PCABT students will have the opportunity to perform in the Spring Performance near the end of the school year.  This performance will showcase vocabulary and skills that the dancers have learned throughout the year in ballet, tap, and jazz classes.

Students in Pre Ballet 2 through Ballet 3 will also perform as a part of PCA’s K-2 Winter Concert.  This performance showcases progress in ballet.

Additionally, students in Pre Ballet 3 through Ballet 3 may audition to be a part of a storybook ballet, such as Peter and the Wolf

If a dancer is selected for a part in the story book ballet and agrees to perform all rehearsals and performances are mandatory.  The storybook ballet is performed for PCA during the school day as well during the dinner theater performance.

Theatre rehearsals are closed to all parents.  Parents who wish to see their children perform should purchase tickets to all the shows they wish to attend.

The sale of tickets and tuition are the two main sources of PCABT income.  Since tuition does not cover the cost of PCABT operating expenses, we depend on ticket sales and attendance at special events to meet our annual budget.  We appreciate and depend upon the support of family and friends. ^

Rules and Regulations for Performing

Performing is an essential experience for all dancers.  Through performing, dancers learn choreography, theater etiquette, and stage presence.  Students in Providence Creek Academy Ballet Theater may be asked to perform in PCA’s Winter Concert and the PCABT Spring Performance, as well as other community performances.  In order to perform, students must abide by the following policies:

  • Students cast for a role in a performance must attend all scheduled rehearsals and be able to take part in all performances of that ballet throughout the academic year.

  • If a student knows beforehand that he or she will not be available for all performances and rehearsals, the student should not accept the role.

  • No excused absences will be accepted once PCABT is in rehearsal for a performance. If unforeseen circumstances arise that prevent a student from keeping a rehearsal or performance commitment, the Artistic Director should be informed immediately.

  • Black out for Performances:  2 weeks prior to all performances every effort must be made to attend all rehearsals and classes.  This could include non-scheduled days.

  • The tentative show schedule is as follows:
    • PCA’s Winter Concert:  Pre Ballet 2, Pre Ballet 3, Ballet 1, Ballet 2, and Ballet 3
    • PCABT’s Spring Performance:  Special Needs, Preschool, Pre Ballet 1A,  Pre Ballet 1, Pre Ballet 2, Pre Ballet 3, Ballet 1, Ballet 2, and Ballet 3

  • Students will only be allowed to perform if they:

    • Attend all appropriate rehearsals

  • Parents are not permitted in the theater or studio during rehearsals unless invited by the teacher.

  • Students will be required to purchase a costume for the Spring Performance.  The costume fee varies by level.  Students must have a costume to participate in a performance.

  • If a student leaves the program before the show, but has already purchased a costume, the costume will remain in the possession of PCABT until after the show is over.  The costume will be worn by an understudy and returned to the student after the show is over.

  • Costumes for the Winter Concert and storybook ballets are provided by PCABT.  The costume maintenance fee is included in monthly tuition for Pre Ballet 2 through Ballet 3.

  • Costume refunds will not be given under any circumstance.

  • Parents do not remain in the theater or studio during any rehearsals unless they have volunteered for a specific function.  Parents will be required to sign their dancers out at dismissal.

  • Parents are not permitted inside the theater.  Students will be dismissed from the lobby. ^

Costumes

Costumes for the Winter Concert and storybook ballets are provided by PCABT.  The costume fees for the Winter Concert and Storybook ballets are included in the monthly fee.  Costumes for the Spring Performance are purchased by the families and are available for the student to take home at the conclusion of the performance.  The cost of these costumes varies by level but will not exceed $80.00.  The Spring Performance costume fees are due with the February bill.

Female dancers must provide their own tights (color to be specified prior to the performance) and shoes (ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap)  Male dancers must provide their own black tights and black shoes (ballet, tap, or jazz).

Additional costume requirements for each production, if applicable, will be distributed two weeks prior to the performance.

The artistic director may draft rules as he/she sees fit to protect the costumes and dancers as well as to insure that the backstage area at the production runs smoothly and safely.

Female students in Pre Ballet 2 through Ballet 3 must provide flesh toned body stockings (nudies) of an approved style. ^

Make Up Policy

Any student who must miss classes for any reason must call the main office at (302) 653-6276 to report their absence.  Please try to arrange your activities so that they do not conflict with your dance commitment.  Three (3) unexcused absences from class or rehearsal may (at the discretion of the teacher or choreographer) result in being removed from choreography.  If there is a conflict, please discuss it as much in advance as possible and in person with the faculty.  Notes need to be delivered in person.  Please report to a faculty member with your note so that it can be put on the calendar.  Missed classes should be made up during a class at the same level or one level below the dancer’s assigned class level.  Please make every effort to attend all rehearsals and classes.

Following is a list of times for each Make up class:

Pre Ballet 1A/B:  Wednesday 3:45-4:45

Summer Program

Providence Creek Academy Ballet Theater offers a 5 week summer dance program each year.  This program begins the last Monday in June and finishes the last Thursday in July.  The 5-week day program is designed for intermediate dancers who want to improve their skills over the course of the summer.

Summer is the best time to advance dance technique.  Without additional school responsibilities, more classes each day, and the ability to focus on technique, dancers have seen dramatic improvements at the end of the five weeks.

Students in the pre-professional division, Pre Ballet 3 through Ballet 3, are a part of the summer intensive program.  Classes for the intensive program are held during the day Monday through Thursday.

Students in the children’s division, Pre Ballet 1 and 2 levels, are a part of the summer evening program.  These classes generally meet one or two times per week in the evening.  Registration forms are available mid March.  Classes are encouraged, but not required.  We recommend the continuation of classes during the summer to retain and advance the technique and discipline that each dancer acquires during the academic year.

All Pre Ballet 3 through Ballet 3 students are required to take a minimum of 5 weeks at PCABT’s summer program, unless otherwise recommended by the Artistic Director. PCABT students in these levels who do not participate in 5 weeks of the summer program will begin the following school year one level below their current level. ^

Conferences

Conferences for student evaluation or issues are encouraged and should be scheduled in advance with the artistic faculty.  These matters cannot be discussed prior to the start of class. ^
